Creating ad hoc reports

Create ad hoc reports for users and managers to run and schedule. Users run ad hoc reports on demand. Managers create and run ad hoc reports and create schedules to run reports at a specified time and frequency.

To create an ad hoc report, run a report from a desired set of data, such as opportunities for the current month, then save and publish the report to other users. Report run using the latest information from the data set.

Ad hoc reports are based on ad hoc views. Before you can create an ad hoc report, an administrator or manager must create an ad hoc view to use as the source of information for the report.

To create a new ad hoc report:

  1. To begin creating an ad hoc report, navigate to the Manage tab on the Ad Hoc Reports workspace. From the Create menu, select Report.

  2. Select an ad hoc view from which to create the report. The view determines the set of information that the report displays.
  3. Choose a template to specify the visual style of the report. For example, your company can provide a template that includes your company name and logo at the top of the report.

Create report templates in Jaspersoft Studio.

  4. After the report generates, you can specify input controls for the report. Input controls are options that allow you to filter information in the report and change how parts of the report display. For example, set input controls to filter a report for a specific date range and display the report table as a single unbroken page.

The available input controls for a report vary based on the report configuration.

  5. If the report is a chart, you can choose the chart type, for example, a pie chart. If the report is a crosstab or table, you can access controls to filter and sort data in the columns.
  6. Save the report.

Do not use an ampersand in the saved name for the report. Due to a TIBCO JasperReports Server limitation, if you save the report with an ampersand you will be unable to open the report later.

You can access saved reports from the Library tab in the Ad Hoc Reports workspace.

  7. Publish the report to specified users to run and schedule. You control report visibility and access using permissions. To publish a report, in the repository, set the report's permissions to grant access to desired users and roles. To access the repository, navigate to the Manage tab on the Ad Hoc Reports workspace. From the View menu, select Search Results.
