NexJ CRM sample data

You can use the sample data to experiment with features in NexJ CRM.

The sample data includes users that you can log in with and contacts that you can use to explore functionality in NexJ CRM.

Sample data is not supported on customized versions of NexJ CRM.

Loading sample data using the environment file

You can load sample data for your development or test environments by setting the sampleData attribute in the environment file in NexJ Studio, and then upgrading or recreating the database for the environment. Before you can load the sample data into your NexJ CRM application, confirm that your system meets the following prerequisites:

  • The application server is stopped.
  • The database is running.
  • Either the appropriate server and connection configuration files (.server and .connection) or the appropriate environment configuration file (.environment) are located in your <workspace>/global directory.
  • You know the URL for the application into which you want to load the sample data.

To load sample data:

  1. In NexJ Studio, in the Deployment layer and in the Environments tab, open the environment file for the environment that you want to add sample data to.
  2. In the Source tab, locate the sampleData="false" attribute, and change the attribute value to true.
  3. Click Save in the toolbar to save the changes to the environment.
  4. Load data by either recreating or upgrading the database.
  5. Confirm that the sample data was loaded by logging in to NexJ CRM as a sample user:
    1. In a web browser, enter the URL to access the application.
    2. When prompted for a user name and password, use the details for any of the users listed in Users included in the sample data.

These changes are reflected in the environment file XML as follows:
<Environment ... sampleData="true">

The sample data is loaded and you can log in to NexJ Customer Relationship Management as a sample user.

Loading sample data using NexJ Admin Console

You select and load sample data categories in the Sample Data Seeder dialog, which is launched from Sample Data in the application toolbar in NexJ Admin Console. This helps you to focus your testing on specific areas of the application.

The Sample Data button is only enabled when the sampleData=true attribute is set in the environment file. For information about configuring the environment file, see Loading sample data using the environment file.

To load sample data using selected data categories:

  1. In NexJ Admin Console, click Sample Data.
The Sample Data Seeder dialog opens.
  2. Select the data categories that you want to load.

See the table below for available categories.

Users included in the sample data

Sample data includes users that you can log in with to experiment with NexJ CRM.

Sample data users have access to different functionality in NexJ CRM depending on the user groups, and privilege groups that the user is assigned to.

User groups
User groups can determine the features that are available to you. For example, if you log in as a member of the Life Insurance user group, you can create a predefined filter in the Contact workspace. You can save the filter with security settings to make it available to other members of this group. Creating a predefined filter is not available if you log in as a member of another user group.

Privilege groups
Privilege groups can determine the workspaces that are visible to you. For example, only users with Call Center User or Call Center Admin privilege groups can see the Call Lists workspace. Users with the Administrators privilege group can see all workspaces.

All sample data users have been assigned the Manage Contacts privilege group, which allows access to basic NexJ CRM functionality. For information on the privileges that are assigned to other users, refer to the table called Users belonging to specific privilege groups.

In a production environment, you can use the NexJ Admin Console to further control user access in NexJ CRM.

In a production environment, you can use the NexJ Admin Console to further control user access in NexJ CRM.

You can experiment with different functionality from the perspective of several different users. For example:

  • Assign tasks and activities to other users. Then log in as a different user and see how the newly-assigned tasks display on the Home workspace, in the My Tasks and My Delegated Tasks tabs.
  • See the data and actions that are available to users in the Business Process tab in the Contact workspace. Submit a business process as one user and approve or reject the business process as a different user.
  • Create a predefined filter in the Contact workspace and save it to make it available to other users. Log in as another user and use the filter.

The following table lists sample data users. The login password for all sample data users is nexj.

Contacts included in the sample data

Sample data includes contacts that you can use in NexJ Customer Relationship Management.

The contacts in the two households shown in the following list have more complete and robust data than the other contacts included in the sample data. Use the simple and advanced search options on the Contacts workspace to find these contacts.

Lamont household

  • Lamont, Dee
  • Lamont, Dionne
  • Lamont, Peter
  • Lamont, Tim

Reynolds household

  • Reynolds, Joan
  • Reynolds, Tom
  • Reynolds, Diane
  • Reynolds, Zak

You can use the contacts to familiarize yourself with functionality in NexJ Customer Relationship Management. For
example:

  • Review the records of the heads of household and their spouses in their Details, Journal, and Portfolio tabs on the Contacts workspace.
  • Add an activity plan, such as a Financial Review in the Journal tab for one of the contacts. Review how the tasks that are associated with the activity plan are assigned to different users. If you mark some of the tasks complete, notice how the next task in the activity plan becomes active.
  • Add a new schedule item on the Schedule workspace and assign it to one or more contacts.
