Managing opportunities

An opportunity represents a potential sale of one or more products to a client.

There are two types of opportunities:

Product Opportunities
Opportunities associated with a product. For example, home insurance or a company credit card.

Parent Opportunities
Opportunities associated with a set of product opportunities, for example, insurance coverage, which may include home insurance and auto insurance product opportunities.

Each opportunity is based on an opportunity template. Users with appropriate privileges can create or modify opportunity templates using the Opportunity Management tab on the Customize workspace. When creating an opportunity template, you specify which steps the user must take to progress through opportunity stages.

You can also associate related activities, such as tasks, schedule items, or documents, with each opportunity.

Best practices for using opportunities

Consider using opportunities to:

  • Track specific products or services that create further upselling opportunities, for example, a new account or an outbound referral

Opportunities should not be used to:

  • Track interests, tasks, or potential inbound referrals
