Adding opportunities

You can add an opportunity to a contact using the Opportunities workspace or Contacts workspace.

When adding an opportunity to a contact, you select from a predefined opportunities list. If you cannot find the opportunity you want to use, then a new opportunity template must be created using the Opportunity Management tab on the Customize workspace. This may need to be done by an administrator, depending on policies and permissions.

To add an opportunity to a contact:

  1. Do one of the following:
    • Navigate to the Opportunities workspace. In the opportunity list area on the left, click the Add button.
    • Navigate to the Contacts workspace. Find and select the contact you want to add the opportunity to, then navigate to the Journal tab. In the Opportunities subtab, click the Add button.
    A context menu appears, allowing you to select the opportunity type and opportunity.
  2. Select the opportunity type, either Product Opportunity or Parent Opportunity, and the opportunity.
    The Add Parent Opportunity or Add Product Opportunity dialog appears.
  3. In the Detail tab, enter the information about the opportunity, including the contact you are adding the opportunity to, the opportunity owner, the expected revenue amount, and the stage the opportunity is currently at.
  4. In the Products tab, specify the product or products associated with the opportunity.
  5. In the Team tab, specify the users allowed to view or modify the opportunity, including their user roles.
    You need to specify at least one user, who is usually the opportunity owner. You can specify individual users or entire coverage groups.
  6. In the Contacts tab, specify additional contacts to associate with the opportunity:
    1. Click the Select button .
      The Select Related Entities dialog opens.
    2. In the list on the left, select a contact from the list.
    3. Click Add to move the selected contact to the right column.
    4. To add an opportunity role to the contact, double-click in the Role column for the contact, then select a role from the drop-down list.
    5. Click OK.
      The Select Related Entities dialog closes.
  7. In the Security tab, specify the view and edit security settings for the opportunity.

    The Security tab is not available when the Hierarchical Access Model is enabled.

  8. Click OK to save the opportunity.
    The Add Parent Opportunity or Add Product Opportunity dialog closes.

The opportunity is now added to the contact. If you have the appropriate permissions, you can see the opportunity on the Opportunities workspace and Contacts workspace.

You can now review and edit any activities associated with this opportunity and also review any future steps associated with the opportunity.

Specifying view and edit security for opportunities
