Managing products associated with parent opportunities

You can add, delete, or change the details of products associated with a parent opportunity.

You can add one or more products to each parent opportunity. When adding a product to a parent opportunity, you only need to specify the type of product. You can also specify the product name and description.

After you have added the product, you can add a new product opportunity to the parent opportunity.

To add a product to a parent opportunity:

  1. Do one of the following:
    • On the Opportunities workspace, select the parent opportunity you want to add a product to. Select the Detail tab and find the Products section.
    • On the Contacts workspace, select the contact associated with the parent opportunity you want to a product to. In the Journal tab, select the Opportunities subtab. From the list of opportunities associated with the contact, select the parent opportunity you want to add a product to. Select the Products tab.
  2. Click the Add button.
    The Add Product (for Parent Opportunity) dialog appears.
  3. Complete the dialog as required and click OK.
    The dialog closes.

The new product appears in the product list for the parent opportunity.

After a product has been added to the opportunity, you can take any of the following actions in the Products tab on the Contacts workspace or in the Products section of the Detail tab on the Opportunities workspace:

  • To modify the details of the product, click the Action button and select Edit.
  • To delete the product, click the Action button  and select Delete.
  • To deactivate the product, click the Action button  and select Deactivate. Specify the reason in the dialog that appears and click OK.
  • To convert this parent opportunity to a product opportunity, click the Action button  and select Create Product Opportunity. After the new product opportunity has been created, you can access it from the Products tab on the Contacts workspace or the Detail tab on the Opportunities workspace by clicking Go to Product Opportunity under the product name.

Qualifying products in a parent opportunity

You can qualify a product in a parent opportunity as a product opportunity using the Opportunities workspace or Contacts workspace.

Before you can qualify a product in a parent opportunity as a product opportunity, you need to add a product to the parent opportunity.

To qualify a product in a parent opportunity as a product opportunity:

  1. Do one of the following:
    • On the Opportunities workspace, select the required parent opportunity. Select the Detail tab and find the Products section.
    • On the Contacts workspace, select the contact associated with the required parent opportunity. In the Journal tab, select the Opportunities subtab. From the list of opportunities associated with the contact, select the required parent opportunity. Select the Products tab.
  2. Click the Action button  next to the name of the product you want to qualify as a product opportunity and select Create Product Opportunity.
    A context menu appears, allowing you to select the product opportunity.
  3. Select the required opportunity.
    The Add Product Opportunity dialog appears.
  4. In the Detail tab, confirm or enter the information about the opportunity, including the contact you are adding the opportunity to, the opportunity owner, the expected revenue amount, and the stage the opportunity is currently at.
  5. In the Products tab, confirm or specify the product or products associated with the opportunity.
  6. In the Team tab, specify the users allowed to view or modify the opportunity, including their user roles.
    You need to specify at least one user, who is usually the opportunity owner. You can specify individual users or entire coverage groups.
  7. In the Contacts tab, specify additional contacts associated with the opportunity.
  8. In the Security tab, specify the view and edit security levels of this opportunity.
  9. Click OK to save the opportunity.

The new product opportunity for the parent opportunity is now created. If you have the appropriate permissions, you can see the product opportunity on the Opportunities workspace and Contacts workspace, associated with the contact.

You can now review and edit any activities associated with this opportunity and also review any future steps associated with the opportunity.

To access this product opportunity from its parent opportunity, navigate to the Products tab of the parent opportunity and click Go to Product Opportunity under the product name.
